The Revised Plan

Ok.. What do they say about the best made plans?  We are now leaving Toms River on July 15th, and going 3/4 the way around the country before we get to Sturgis. ("K" on the map below)  The reason for the revised plan is that Jerry, James and Joe will be traveling the whole country with me, instead of just going to Sturgis. That puts us on a time schedule, (which I don't like).  It gives us three weeks to travel the approximately 5200 miles to Sturgis for bike week, and see things we want to see along the way. That mileage doesn't take into consideration side trips off the planned main travel route. I will use the word "plan" loosely throughout this blog.  Because as Jerry keeps saying, "If we have time"   Yes Jerry, we'll have plenty of time.  As far as how we are going?  We "plan" to take US Route 50 west most of the way.  For those of you that never heard of Route 50, me either. But I discovered that it goes from Ocean City, MD to Sacramento, CA.  We will probably pick it up somewhere around or west of Winchester, VA.  Rt. 50 is a US Federal Highway, but is not an Interstate, and it should be more interesting of a ride.  As of now, a rough itinerary in case you can't tell from the map below should be, Toms River to Winchester VA,  pick up Rt. 50 thru St. Louis, Kansas City, Pueblo CO, down to Yosemite National Park, San Francisco, the Pacific Coast Hwy to Portland OR, down to Yellowstone National Park and THEN Sturgis.  We will make up time and mileage on Interstate Highways if we need to.  I'm sure I will discover that all plans, including the rough one mentioned above, will remain fluid and flexible. There are no definite overnight stops, and no reservations anywhere. That's why the title of this post is called, "The Revised Plan"  I'm certain it will be revised many more times.   Stay tuned.
